About English
English is one of the most widespread and widely spoken languages in the world. Its history dates back to the 5th century when three tribes – the Angles, the Saxons and the Jutes – crossed the North Sea from what is now Denmark and Northern Germany.
Today there are countless variants of English, with the main differences being attributed to location and affecting vocabulary, grammar, idioms, dialects, etc. The main variants are American English, British English, Australian/New Zealand English, Canadian English, Caribbean English and South African English.
