Jesper Sandberg, the founder and executive chairman of Sandberg Translation Partners Ltd (STP), has been named the new chair of the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA).
Jesper will chair the board of directors at GALA, the largest trade association in the language services industry, until 31 December 2017. He succeeds the outgoing chair, Véronique Özkaya.
A member of the GALA board since 2014, Jesper has previously served as both secretary and vice-chair. In his new role, he will now lead efforts to promote the association’s values, develop strategic activities, and provide member companies with more opportunities for professional and commercial growth.
“I am proud and honoured to accept the position of chair,” Jesper said. “I started volunteering for associations six years ago as a way to give back to the industry that has given me so much, and to help other LSPs fulfil their potential. Now, along with my fellow board members, I hope to use my experience and love of the profession to further strengthen GALA’s offering and provide even more for our members.”
A translator by training, Jesper moved to England from his native Denmark in 1990. After working as a freelancer for five years, he set up STP as a partnership in 1995 before incorporating the company in 2000. Today STP employs 120 people in four offices across Europe, and is the world’s largest specialist supplier of translations into the Nordic languages.
“My company would not be where it is today without the personal, professional and commercial growth opportunities that industry associations offer,” Jesper added. “I am excited by the challenge ahead and look forward to helping GALA achieve its goals for 2017 – starting with delivering our best ever annual conference in Amsterdam in March.”
