The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) prohibits many ingredients that the EU allows, and vice versa. For example, while food additives in the EU are assigned an E number and are labelled as such, in the US, that additive’s common name must be used (e.g. “Aspartame” as opposed to “E951”).
