How many times have you imported a file in a CAT tool and hoped the formatting wasn’t messy when it came time to export it after translation? Well, there is a simple way to check this to save yourself some pre-delivery panic.

You can pre-translate documents in your tool using placeholder text (the function is named differently depending on the tool in question, but it is present in most modern CAT tools). That text can be either lorem ipsum-style text, machine translation or simply copying source to target if you don’t have any available plugins.

Export the file and see how it would look after the tool is applied on them, then you know what to expect later.
