When translating software or websites, it’s common for clients to send whole folder structures containing the files for localisation. They may ask you to send back all files with a _[language code] abbreviation (say, “homepage_dan.xml” for Danish files).

It’s crucial for your clients that the structure and naming conventions are maintained, because if you move files around, it may cause issues when trying to reassemble the localised version of their software.

There are tools that can easily help you batch rename entire folder structures of files with similar patterns, either adding or removing parts to the file names. Namewiz or Advanced Renamer are just two of them, give them a go. They will save you a lot of time.
