Meet the team

Our most valuable asset is our large in-house team of highly qualified and experienced translators, account linguists and project managers. They are skilfully led by our management team who have a combined 70+ years’ vocational and commercial experience in the translation industry. STP has a comprehensive staff training programme and commitment to continuing professional development to ensure that we keep up with developments in our industry.

STP is led by four seasoned industry professionals who work very closely together and complement each other’s skill sets and areas of responsibility. With 70+ years of personal hands-on experience between them, including translation, project management, IT, marketing, business management, relationship management etc., they recognise talent and enable their teams to be high achievers.

They manage with a “pull” rather than a “push” approach.

STP’s team of experienced, innovative project managers are at the forefront of our customer service. Almost all of them are fully qualified translators and native or near-native speakers of one or more of our target languages, which we believe adds a valuable dimension to their understanding of project requirements and enables them to prepare projects optimally for our translators.

Utilising our comprehensive bespoke project management software and documented, structured procedures, our project managers ensure that:

client needs are assessed and enquiries dealt with as quickly as possible
all materials and instructions are handled and stored correctly
correspondence between client, project manager and linguist(s) runs smoothly
projects are completed in accordance with client instructions and within the agreed time frame

All translators working in-house or freelance for STP fulfil the minimum qualification requirements set out in the ISO 17100 standard, whereby the necessary translation, linguistic, textual, research, cultural and technical competences can be achieved through one or more of the following:

a recognised postgraduate degree in translation (or degree-level studies)
equivalent qualification in any other subject and two years of translation experience
at least five years of translation experience

In reality STP goes well above and beyond these basic requirements in our qualification and selection process and in our ongoing quality supervision of translator performance. The quality of work by every single linguist working for STP is continually being tested and subjected to the scrutiny not only of their peers within STP’s ranks, but also by highly competent checkers employed by our clients and in turn their clients.

All linguists working for STP must commit to undertaking continuing professional development (CPD) in compliance with the ISO 17100 standard.

Vacancies

STP’s in-house vacancies are advertised here. We also accept open applications for in-house translator roles from native Nordic or English linguists who fulfil our minimum qualification criteria. All applications should be sent to us by e-mail, with the word “Application” in the subject line. Please enclose your CV from the outset.

New in-house translators at STP are selected based on their formal qualifications, education and professional experience, as well as their ability to fit in with the in-house team. We rate our team highly and strive to create an environment in which everyone can work efficiently and take pride in what they do. As an in-house translator, you will come into contact with a host of different subject areas.

Our main specialist areas of work are automotive, general technical (mechanical engineering, electrical, electronic), IT and localisation, financial and commercial, but if you already have experience from a different specialist subject area such as medical, you will also have the opportunity to use your skills in that field.

If you have not used memoQ or Trados Studio before, we will train you. You will also be able to benefit from our in-house training and our extensive collection of instructions, tips and tricks on various CAT tool and other technical issues. You will also have full use of our extensive collection of electronic mono- and multilingual dictionaries.

Depending on your professional experience, your translation work will be revised by a fellow translator for the first 6, 12 or 24 months of your career at STP, and feedback and guidance will be provided. In general, we expect junior translators to translate at least 1,500 words a day within the first few months, depending on the subject matter. This number grows to 2,000 words when you get more experience; some of our in-house translators do up to 3,500-3,600 words per day.

c1

The main translation tool used at STP is Kilgray memoQ, although we also regularly use Trados Studio and other CAT tools.

Internships

Every year, STP takes a number of students with a translation degree or postgraduate degree for 2-, 3- or 4-month internships. For most of these, knowledge of a Nordic language is essential. Click here to read more about our internships
